Advice for girls and young women

If you are in the UK and are worried that FGM may happen to you or someone that you know, you can speak to a teacher, doctor, school nurse, social worker, police officer or any health, educational or social care professional. They will be able to help and support you. If it is an urgent situation then call 999 and ask for the police.

You could also call the NSPCC on 0800 028 3550.  This is a 24-hour free helpline for anyone concerned about girls or women at risk of FGM. Or you could contact Childline on the free phone number 0800 1111 or get in touch online.
If you are abroad and need help or advice about FGM then call the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on +44 (0) 207007 1500 or contact the British High Commission or Embassy in the country you are visiting.

FGM Aware is a project from the Women's Support Project

The Women’s Support Project works to end violence against women. Based in Glasgow, we work across Scotland to raise awareness of the root causes, extent, and impact of male violence and for improved services for those affected. Key themes include addressing unmet need and emerging issues, making links between different forms of violence and abuse, and supporting multiagency and partnership approaches. Our work is informed by an understanding of links and overlaps between different forms of violence, discrimination and oppression.
